OVER THE MOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You truely are the best photographer EVER!!!!!!! Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to do this today, I love them and Mo also made my day by being so well behaved :)

david is at football training and i cannot wait to show him later, cannot stop smiling, you have really captured the bond between girl and horse in some of those images. I never dreamed they would look so gorgeous.

I will show people at the yard as i am sure some of the others would love to have photo's taken with their horses (not necessarily in wedding attire!)

Love a VERY happy and smiley Kate xx

what a nice email from a Humanist wedding organiser

After I sent a few pictures for the website I received this email.

thanks for these Matt - much appreciated . I can put your name underneath as a credit but it won't be a link as you can't do that on the gallery page but there is another part of my webpage where I can recommend people so I will put your details there . Thank you for the offer of linking me to your website - that's great . I will email you a high res logo and some details shortly . I would very much look forward to working with you again - your photos are genuinely some of the best I've seen .

be back in touch soon,

best regards,

Emma

client comments after wedding photography

Hiiiii Matt,

We are absolutely THRILLED with all the photos, I cannot thank you enough. Honestly we are just blown away by the quality, the quantity (!) and the beauty of the moments that you've captured... I never imagined that they would turn out so incredibly. Every frame is joyful, and looking at them transports me back to the day so wonderfully. I love that I'll have them to smile at forever. You put everybody at ease all day long, and you really went the extra mile to make it the magical experience that it was. You never flagged, never stopped smiling, and never stopped snapping, and for this we are all so grateful. The parents are ecstatic that they have so much to choose from to fill albums! We'll probably have to buy several....
Hope all is well with you, and thankyou again, so so much. There couldn't possibly have been a better man for the job.

Hi Matt

We had jamie's mum and partner and my mum and dad round the other night and looked at all the wedding photos, they are amazing! We all loved them! Every time I look at them I have a massive smile on my face.

I have given the album link out to friends and family and I have also recommended you to a colleague at work for her wedding.

Thank you again
Jess

just a quickie, comments below following a pre wedding shoot with camera shy couple :-)

Hi Matt,

The photos are lovely, Ian and I are really pleased, I am not sure why he was worried he certainly poses better than me! The fence ones are great, and were a real boost to Ian's confidence.

St Marys Church Sevenoaks wedding photography

These are just a couple of shots from a wedding at St Marys Church in Riverhead, I have just finished the edit and there are 1500 pictures for the clients !

the wedding the day after was in Tonbridge and was the Blind Couple I have previously mentioned, wel this one made the sevenoaks chronicle as the bride was 5 hours late due to a lorry crash on the motorway! but everything still progressed and they married in a very emotional service when she finally arrived !

if you are reading this I would love some comments or information on what you would like to hear
cheers

after shooting a wedding (clients comments!)

Thank you very much for photographing our Wedding. We have had so many lovely comments about you from our guests. You are
a great photographer, and my girlie's loved you! We were very lucky to have you, and it completed our theme of relaxed and casual.

The photos were fantastic, and we did what you said, we had a glass of bubbly and a quiet, dark room. We didn't need tissues as it was so
lovely to see everything. We all (including George) enjoyed reliving the day. There were so many photos that Dave & I didn't know about, it was
great to have surprises. And talking of surprises, how on earth did you get the "Heart" photo so perfect?! We can't wait to show everyone!

We are so glad we never had the "Normal" style "Formal" photos, it was exactly as we dreamt the day to be, and what we both wanted. We've both had the "Normal" White Wedding
before, and although we enjoyed those days, at the time, nothing actually could beat this for us!

client comment after delevering a wedding album

Hi Matt,

Thanks so much for dropping our beautiful book off today,it was definitely worth waiting for.The quality & shots are amazing!
You are so right, this is a book we will treasure forever.

I was going to watch the DVD's this evening with Simon but I couldn't wait & I've been looking at everything all afternoon.

The film footage is fantastic, the ceremony, speeches, first dance......absolutely wonderful to keep.(I even caught my dad wiping a tear away, which I never would have known about!).

I can't wait to show Simon later.

Thank you so much for everything you have done, you've been a real star and you certainly haven't heard the last from us.

Take care for now & we'll be in touch to order some individual prints.

Kellie

And the story continues

And the story continues!
I thought I would let anyone who sees this blog see what I have been up to and hear of some recent successes.
As you may or may not know I love photography...no really, I love it, even the bits that I don’t want to do I enjoy! But of late I have had the pleasure of shooting Sunrise festival again only to find out that my shots from last year were used extensively to promote this year’s festival, not only on the website but in ‘Rising’ magazine in several parts of the publication, not only that but my shot featured in The Independent Guide to Summer festivals as the Cover Shot!
Amazing and very flattering.
In addition I had a shoot with a School of Children moving up a year and received a very complimentary email requesting 42 copies of the group shot from the Teachers!
My Pet Portraits session was ok at the Sevenoaks Garden centre and that was featured in the Sevenoaks Chronicle with the winning entry
Tonight is a Masonic event where I am shooting and printing on site so reading this you will have an idea of how varied my work can be.
Oh and finally I have just made my first ever 16x12 woodblock print of a horse and rider, it looks amazing and I can’t wait to deliver the items to the client, they will be quite emotional I think as unfortunately the shot was taken over a year ago at a showing show at Poll Hill Riding centre and two weeks after the shot was taken the Horse unfortunately passed away, it was then a year later a friend of the rider found the gallery that the rider never realised was there.
So if you’re looking for portrait work, wedding photography in Kent or London, Event photography in Kent or London, Studio photography well anything really then please feel free to contact me
Bye for now

Matt

photography in and around Kent and London

Well the last 7 days has seen an amazing amount of activity, this is how it reads, Wednesday through to Saturday morning 3.30am shoot Sunrise festival where I found out they used my shots to promote this year’s event on the website, the magazine and in the Independent guide to festivals, once back download 30 gig of images recharge batteries, sleep for 3 hours, get up and shoot a wedding for 11 hours, get back download, charge batteries, sleep for a few hours, up shoot jumping at Poll Hill, get back, download, charge batteries, eat! Wow, sleep; get up 6am to shoot two horses being turned out as a present for an unsuspecting partner, then a marathon edit of 2500 shots!
Take a deep breath, shoot a £20,000 wedding ring, shoot bottle shots for Hansell Design in Sevenoaks, unfortunately tripped in the studio over the data cable connecting my camera to the laptop and pulled it over breaking the link in the camera so I guess the bill will equal what I earn this week, a little annoying I must admit, but I still love my job, to anyone thinking of getting into this, it’s not a job, it’s a lifestyle, to those who think it’s easy now everything is digital, is it easy to get around London now you have a car? This is the best analogy I can think of...

what a week

Well what a week, the Royal Wedding that I watched all day, I didn't get the call to be the photographer but had plans anyway :-)
Still the guy they did select is in on all of the Royal Weddings and shoots with a £25,0000 Hassleblad ! thats the cost with one lens...really nice kit and normally only used for fashion or shots that will be blown to the size of a house, next down from that is the kit I use :-)
And what have I done this week aside from even more bank holidays and gardening...
well I have a special promotion on in the studio for familys, couples or groups (perfect for a han party or stag party as well) £75 for an hour and six prints ! as well as Facebook downloads...
in addition I am having a go at pet portraits at Sevenoaks Garden Centre over the next bank holiday, bring any pet (as long as you don't own an elephant!)
also been doing so pre wedding shoots and studio portraits, got a great shot of a baby sitting in the corner of the backdrop I just love it
Anyway so for studio portraits in kent, corporate portraits, social media portraits (up scale your facebook, linkedin image!)and of course Weddings, models and magazines

Product photography and portraits

Well up until the last post (just a few seconds ago) I didn’t label anything, what effect has this had on my Blog, well no one can see it!
So from now on it's Labels all the way, oh and some more up to date shots!
I cover all sorts of photography from weddings, through to studio work, location photography and can even offer on site print facilities!
Why don't I specialise, well because I love photography, and it can be a wedding or a wedding ring, a magazine shot or something creative, I just love the challenge.
Many advocate specialisation but ask yourself is that to earn more money or to become a specialist? I would say the later, why do I say this? In many walks of life it seems to be the specialist who takes things for granted and makes the mistakes, the person who is capable but who has to attempt something they don’t do all the time is surely going to pay far more attention to detail?
Obviously this scenario won’t work with an open heart surgeon  but you get the idea!
For me being a freelance photographer in Kent allows me the luxury of shooting wedding photography in Kent and London and then doing some product photography and event photography this variation always keeps me on my toes and all styles work together when shoot

Sevenoaks wedding photographer

These are a selection from a wedding at the wonderful venue, Coltsford Mill

Teaching Photography

Well what I nice morning I have had, I have been to the studio and had 7 students and the head of photography from Hillview Performing arts school in for photographic tuition.

the time flew! and I am sure the students got something out of it, we did a couple of different lighting styles, one high key one with black background and using a snoot, I wont say who but one of the students stood out, I don't know who it was it was only when looking at the shots after wards they had taken a different take on it to most, however they all show great interest and I look forward to the next time

Thursday 31 March 2011

Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

I had the pleasure of shooting Syd Arthur in the studio yesterday we also decided to go out to a location I know to get some outdoor shots, there is a gallery but I can't show you as the band need to see them first
Also got a call from a couple of people for event photography, also a firm of solicitors who need portrait shots in London
they emailed me several times just to check if I had given the right price as after getting quotes elsewhere they could not beleive how 'reasonable' my prices are (not cheap but reasonable!)
if someone is that cheap then you have to ask yourself why, are they not busy if so is that because the work is no good?

Wednesday 23 March 2011

What a varied job I have

All in one day! I started my day at BNI where I was witness to a great presentation on social media from David Taylor of 2010
then collected some rings to shoot for Bill foreman of westone workshops http://jalbum.net/a/931683/
then shot some pack shots for printmonger and created a video for them
http://video214.com/play/3HA9VMwPQk1h2beoanR2Zg/s/dark
and created the above video presentation for their website :)
then walked Wilma and got ready for tomorrows marathon shoot, this week I have everything from a wedding through to packshots, studio party for some girls and an event to cover!
as I said, what A varied job I have
I did get a little dissapointed that there is another matt james photography out here who has nicked my web style and published a facebook page as well, dont be fooled its not me!

Tuesday 22 March 2011

Hillview School and Bags!

Well an interesting day was Monday 21st I collected some bags from a great company called Crazybags and it looks like they would like me to shoot their products for them, collected some for test shots and hope they like the results :-)
also Hillview performing arts college will be using the studio and me to teach lighting and photography to its students, a very exciting prospect

Thursday 17 March 2011

new media

I am so busy at the moment with new media and photography, when I say new media I am talking of mainly social networks like you tube, facebook and such like as well as videos
I have worked on several corporate shoots that have turned into videos for embeding on websites

some can be seen on my website, but I have others I can provide links to like Roberts metal packaging, Youngs brewery, and vinopolis in London

it would be interesting to see what you think of these videos

personally I love them, I enjoy creating them and they provide instant satisfaction...a bit like chocolate!

low light photography

its not simple thats for sure, when shooting a wedding in many circumstances you will not be permitted to use a flash in a church and rightly so, its a little distracting with that going off when people should be all eyes on the bride and groom so what do you do?

well firstly there is a fair investment in glass (Lens) you need a fast lens offering f1.2 - f2.8 capabilities to suck in the light, then you have to look for the emotion and the shot and complete this with the available light, its not simple but when it happens its magic, the shot should feel like your standing there

you can see some on the website

whats your opinion
